Subject: Dancing to the Music
From: Debra Cleckler - NTA VP of Membership - NTA Dance Committee - debb@cleckler.com

I recently saw a cute line dance on youtube danced to the song "Little White Church" but it did not work well when it came to being accurately counted to the music. The steps seem to match the music fairly well and I enjoyed the dance but felt like I was dancing a little "off" according to the counts.

The first phrase of the 4/4 time music has the traditional 32 counts. The line dance choreographer was presenting a "32 count" line dance. When she had completed her 32 counts she was only 16 beats (or only half of the phrase) into the song.

When I phrased out the dance it occurred to me that the rhythm was 1& 2, 3& 4, (Polka) and it should be counted that way. The choreographer had counted it 1-2-3-4, (for counts 1& 2), and 5-6-7-8 (for counts 3&4). I think that if the choreographer would reconsider how to count the dance it would match the music better by using all 32 counts of each phrase.

Music should drive dance. Choreographers should know this. NTA offers a workshop on music (Dance Fundamentals V) which teaches how to recognize and use the different rhythms in many styles of music. If you are interested in learning more or setting up NTA workshops in your area contact me at debb@cleckler.com.

SUBJECT: “CHACHANELA” – A Brand New Line Dance by Ira Weisburd
FROM: Ira Weisburd (Boca Raton, Florida USA) – dancewithira@comcast.net

I have just uploaded 2 videos of my brand new dance called “CHACHANELA”:

By myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euGlXPU8DPg
With my students: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlVKkEx8REk

It is a gorgeous track (reminiscent of Santana) by one of Argentina’s most famous singers: PIMPINELA. The group consists of a duet (brother and sister). The music can best be described as a Rumba/Cha Cha Rhythm. It is a 2 Wall High Beginner/ Easy Intermediate Line Dance. The music is available on their album called BUENA ONDA. The name of the track is: AGUANTE CAMPEON (Hold On, Champion). It is sung in Spanish. It is a song about HOPE: “No matter how bad things appear to be, hold on, champion, keep moving forward because better days are coming. If you would like to teach this dance at your next class, party or event, contact me at: dancewithira@comcast.net . It has NO Tags, NO Restarts and A KILLER TRACK !! I hope you enjoy this dance.

SUBJECT:  NOTE ABOUT DANCES BEING POSTED ON THE NEW DANCES/VIDEO PAGE.
We only accept brand new dances to be posted on our site (no more than two months old).  The sites (below) archive dances (and I'm sure there's other sites that also archive dances) and you can submit your older dances and new dances to them, also.  If your site as listed below is not correct, please let me know.  This is just a list that I have kept for awhile.  Remember, our site is only to INTRODUCE brand new dances and they remain there for a short period of time and are either deleted or graduated to the next category as they continue to do well or not.  Thanks for your cooperation.
